USC Varsity tournament...huge success!!!

Posted by Donald Angel at Sep 13, 2021 9:00AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Varsity tournament that was held this past Saturday was flat out a fantastic tournament. The competition level was second to none as we had 5 of the top 10 WPIAL AAAA teams at our tournament! There were four other teams ranked in the top 10 of their respective divisions. That is nine ranked teams out of the 12 that attended. USC finished pool play at 3-3, good for 2nd place in the pool. Going in to the playoffs, USC was matched against Oakland Catholic, the #1 seed from their pool. USC handed the Eagles only their second loss on the day (25-15) and advanced to the semi finals. Unfortunately, USC could not get past defending State champion North Allegheny despite playing an inspired match. USC fell 29-27.

On a day marking the 20th anniversary of September 11th, our USC unsung heros were the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the tournament the success that it was. Bonnie Culp, tournament chair, ran a flawless event. Jill Hicks and Jamie Houck kept the entire tournament fed and hydrated. Everyone pitched in to make the event successful. Thanks to all who helped out and donated food/beverages. Thanks to the JV for doing their part too. Thanks to the coaches as always! Looking forward to an equally successful JV tournament in just two weeks!
